Scott Kelby's Lighting Gear Week

on Wednesday May 14 2008 - 14:02:22 | by lee
Scott Kelby had a lighting gear week where he talked about various lighting equipment he recomends. He starts from the inexpensive hotshoe flash units like the Canon 430EX or Vivitars that we use at strobist groups, right up to the pro quality continuous lighting in studio and on location strobes. It is split across 5 posts: Day 1 Wedding/Portrait Location Lighting Setup (on a Budget), Day 2 talks about more inexpensive must have equipment. (Just forget about the word 'budget' from here on!) Day 3 Moving into the studio, continous lighting. Day 4 Pro quality studio flash. Day 5 Shooting on location. Then there is some follow up, Scott answers readers' questions.

Exciting News For Our May and June Club Meetings

on Saturday May 10 2008 - 17:06:43 | by jeff.marcus
We have two great news items to share.  First, our June club meeting will be a combination meeting and photo shoot.  The subject of the shoot will be plants, flowers, trees, shrubs, and everything botanical.  More on that later.

The big news is the preparation for the flower shoot.  We have a guest speaker coming in for our educational piece.  Mr. Rikk Flohr of
Fleeting Glimpse Images has graciously accepted our invitation to teach us how to take better flower photos.

Photography and the Law

on Saturday May 10 2008 - 17:06:29 | by jeff.marcus
Say you’re out for a photographic stroll, taking pictures of that cool old power plant on the edge of town. Suddenly seventy security guards swarm you and demand you hand over your camera.

“What is this,” you ask yourself, “a Michael Moore movie?”

Here's a link to a great article talking about your rights.

Raptor Release Report

on Sunday May 04 2008 - 19:15:11 | by lee
American Kestrel Falcon Saturday was an almost perfect day. Sun was out, clear sky, bit of a chill to the wind. It was a very big turn out. I actually ran into a couple fellow photogs I knew from other events I had been to. I wasn't sure what to expect at this event as this was my first time to it. What I saw was quite impressive. The stars of the show did not make an appearence until 1:00, as they wanted them to have as little exposure to people as possible. Click Read the rest for all the details.

(May 6: I added a couple new pictures of birds being release on stage)
