February 15, 2010 Red Wing Photography Club Monthly Meeting
President Mary O. welcomed all members to the monthly meeting. There were no visitors or guests present.
Gene Schwope, Chairman of spring Break, treasurer of Twin Cities Camera Council, gave a presentation on the Camera Council’s upcoming 25th Anniversary Spring Break. This will be held on Saturday March 27th at the Chippewa Middle School, North Oaks, MN. It is a day of photo programs, vendors, MN Wildlife Animals, door prizes and great food. It celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Spring Break. Cost is $25, the sae admission as 25 years ago. Programs include: Nature’s Images and Traveling the Globe; Day in the Life of a Photojournalist; Light and Composition: The keys to professional award-winning photos. More info available at www.cameracouncil.org. Animals will be there over lunch so bring your camera!!! Price includes admission to all programs, lunch, dinner, coffee breaks, and more. Registration begins at 7:45 AM, programs start at 8:30 AM. There is limited seating around 350. People cannot register at the door and the spots are filling fast! Mr. Schwope also talked about the anniversary celebration at Split Rock Light House coming up this year.
Upcoming Club Elections What - Elections will be held to elect a working executive board of 13 members which will consist of club officers and committee chairs. When - Elections will take place throughout the last two weeks of February, with the new board being announced on March 1st. What you can do - nominate yourself or someone you know who is interested!
Education Director Jim M. did a Point and Shoot class review - These classes focused on fixed lens cameras. There were photos of the class taken by Jim Martin. First classes held in the new studio!!! Jeff got a great deal on tables and chairs for the classes! Jim also did a intermediate class review - Upcoming Community Ed classes Saturday March 6th 9 to noon, and May 22nd 9 to noon. Also offering classes to middle school and high school students on early release days. The club is also doing some community service work by teaching very basic classes at the Senior Citizens Center.
Upcoming Photoshop class info - Saturday March 13th. Rikk Flohr will teach Beginner’s Elements class from 10 to noon, then intermediate elements from 1 to 3. $10 for members, $25 for non-members.
Current Challenge: The Beauty of Ice - Several photos from members were shown. The new Challenge: “The First Letter of your Last Name” Take photos of anything that begins with the first letter of your last name. Post up to 5 photos into the Challenge Gallery. These photos do not count as part of your personal gallery photo limit.
The next monthly meeting will be March 15th at Anderson Center
Featured photographer of the month was Jim M. Jim and his wife Grace took a trip to Europe. Started in Switzerland, Zurich. He showed and discussed many beautiful images of Lucerne, Italian Switzerland, Italy, Italian Riviera, Tuscany, Florence, Milan.
Treasurer Jeff M. ended the meeting with a final plea for members to be “photographer of the month” to show their photos and talk about them at one of the future meetings.
